International Day of Flamenco November 16, 2022 - Wednesday On November 16th, 2010, UNESCO declared Flamenco Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. A year later, International Day of Flamenco was launched to promote this artistic expression combining song (cante), dance (baile), and musicianship (toque). Cante is the vocal expression of flamenco, communicating grief, joy, tragedy, rejoicing, and fear. Baile is a dance of passion and courtship, while toque is the art of guitar playing. Located in the south of Spain, Andalusia is the birthplace of flamenco. Yet it is also part of the identity of specific groups, particularly the Roma ethnic community, that has undeniably contributed to its development.
